Rules: act the moment you copy

Start from the Starter Rules gallery. Nothing runs until you add a rule.

What it does

A rule is a match plus an action, evaluated the moment something lands on the clipboard. It is the difference between a history you tidy and a history that arrives tidy.

What a rule can match on

  • The app you copied from.
  • The type of clip.
  • Its length.
  • Its text, using the same search syntax as the picker: a | b, -exclude and "exact phrase".

What a rule can do

Clean tracking parameters from a URL, run a transform, extract just the email, domain or number out of a longer clip, compress a copied image, pin the clip, arm burn after paste, or file it under a label.

The Starter Rules gallery turns the common ones into a single tap: file every screenshot under a Screenshots collection, clean tracking links, vault anything that looks like a secret. Add one, then edit it once you see what it does to real copies.

Tips

  • Write narrow rules. A rule matched on one app is predictable, a rule matched on any text containing http is not.
  • Pair a filing rule with automatic screenshot capture and your screenshots archive themselves.

Create your first rule

    Open Starter Rules

    Open the Starter Rules gallery in Settings. It holds one click presets such as filing every screenshot under a Screenshots collection, cleaning tracking links, or vaulting anything that looks like a secret.

    Pick a preset or start blank

    Add a preset in a single tap, then adjust it, or write a rule from scratch.

    Set the match

    Match on the app you copied from, the clip type, its length, or its text using search syntax: a | b for either, -word to exclude, and "exact phrase" for exact matches.

Frequently asked questions

Do rules run without me setting them up?

No. Nothing is active until you add a rule, and the gallery only suggests.

Can a rule opt out of secret detection?

Yes. Rules can opt out per rule, so an automation you trust does not fight the vault's detection.
