What ships today, and what we're building next · macOS

ClipBuddy is a native macOS clipboard manager with a simple promise: remember everything you copy, make it instantly searchable, and keep 100% of it on your Mac today. Here’s what’s already shipping and where we’re headed. The planned intelligence below runs on-device.

Here today

  • Searchable clipboard history for text, images, links, files, code and JSON.
  • Universal Search — one query surfaces matching clips, emoji and Labels together; plus search by meaning, token filters (app:, type:, has:) and saved smart folders. All on-device.
  • Built-in developer tools — a CSV table viewer, a two-clip diff, and UUID / Unix-time ↔ date / URL-parse generators, on-device.
  • Starter Rules — one-click presets that set up common clipboard automations in a tap.
  • Screenshot text search + copy-text-from-image — find a screenshot by its words and copy them out, on-device.
  • On-device AI — summarize, rewrite/format, pull out action items or explain any text clip with Apple’s on-device model (opt-in, Pro, macOS 26+). Nothing leaves your Mac.
  • Paste powerclipboard undo (⌘⌥Z), nine reusable slots (⌘⌥1–9), and a Paste Stack (⌘⌥S).
  • Organize — collections, related clips, burn-after-paste, pinned clips and labels.
  • Copy Sessions — your history is grouped automatically into work sessions, split whenever you step away for more than half an hour and labelled by the app you used most. Save the ones worth keeping.
  • Hide while screen sharing — one switch keeps ClipBuddy out of screen shares, recordings and screenshots while it stays visible on your own Mac.
  • Screenshot redaction, encrypted backups and Markdown preview — cover secrets and faces in an image before you share it, export your history to a passphrase-encrypted file, and read copied Markdown rendered.
  • Keyword snippets with dynamic placeholders, an emoji picker (⌘⌥E), quick actions (QR make/scan, translate on macOS 14.4+ between supported languages, colour, maths, remove image background), and developer transforms (base64, JSON, hashes, case).

What we’re building next

(Planned — not yet in the app. We prototype on real usage before we ship, so these land only when they’re genuinely useful.)

  • Smart suggestions — surface the clip you’re most likely to need next, learned entirely on-device from your own patterns (nothing uploaded).
  • Deeper on-device intelligence — extend the on-device AI to more clip types and actions, always private.

What we will not do

  • No cloud sync today. Any future sync would be opt-in, end-to-end encrypted and subject to a fresh privacy review before it ships.
  • No accounts or logins. Apple’s App Store handles purchases; ClipBuddy never sees your identity.
  • No Windows or Linux port. We stay focused on the best native Mac experience.

Frequently asked questions

Does ClipBuddy upload my clipboard today?

No. Clipboard content stays on this Mac today. Any future sync would be optional, end-to-end encrypted and reviewed against the App Privacy disclosure before it could ship.

Is ClipBuddy on Windows or Linux?

No. ClipBuddy is macOS-only and will stay focused on being the best native Mac clipboard manager.

How is it distributed?

Exclusively through the Mac App Store, with Apple handling purchases (StoreKit). There is no account or login.
