Get ClipBuddy from the Mac App Store and open it. A clipboard icon appears in the menu bar.
ClipBuddy saves the text, links, images, files and code you copy into a private history on your Mac.
Press Command-Shift-V (⌘⇧V) anywhere to open the picker.
Pick a clip with the arrow keys and press Return to put it on your clipboard, then press Command-V to paste. With Pro, type to search your full history.
I kept needing something I had copied an hour earlier and had no way to get it back: a link, a code from a text message, an address. So I built the clipboard app I wanted: fast, out of the way and private. Your copies stay on your Mac because of how the app is built, not because I ask you to trust me.
ClipBuddy is a native macOS clipboard manager (a Mac app from the Mac App Store, not a browser extension). It keeps a private history of the text, links, images, files and code you copy, so you can paste any of them again with one keystroke. Snippets that expand as you type and Markdown notes live in the same app.
No. macOS keeps only the one item you copied last and gives you no list of earlier copies. ClipBuddy adds that history and keeps it on your Mac.
Press Command-Shift-V anywhere. ClipBuddy opens your history as a panel; move with the arrow keys and press Return to put the clip back on your clipboard, then Command-V to paste. You can change the shortcut in Settings, Shortcuts.
Press Command-Shift-V, pick the clip and press Return, or press Command-1 to Command-9 for the first nine. On the free plan you see your last 10 clips. With Pro you can type to search your full history, including by meaning and by voice.
Free: your last 10 clips, 10 notes, 10 snippets with keyword expansion, the emoji picker, 30 text transforms, clipboard undo (Command-Option-Z), hiding from screen shares, every theme and layout, and the templates. Pro: full history (up to 200,000 clips), search, the words inside screenshots, unlimited notes and snippets, AI snippets, snippet imports, note and snippet folders, Paste Stack, nine slots, multi-select, the Touch ID Vault, rules, encrypted backups and on-device AI on macOS 26.
With Pro, turn on Paste Stack collecting, copy each item, then press Command-Option-S at each destination to paste them one by one. Stack order pastes the newest copy first; queue order pastes in the order you copied. Pro also lets you multi-select clips with Command-M and copy them as one combined clip.
Yes, with Pro. ClipBuddy reads the words in screenshots and images on your Mac, so you can find a screenshot by searching for text it contains and copy that text back out. The text recognition runs on your Mac.
Yes. Free keeps up to 10 snippets and Pro has no limit. Save reusable text with a keyword and tokens such as {{date}}, {{date:+7d}}, {{time}}, {{clipboard}} and fill-in fields. Switch on Expand keywords as you type in Settings, Snippets, and typing the keyword in any app turns it into the snippet; or press Command-Shift-V, type the keyword and press Return. With Pro, Selection Prompts and Chains run on Apple's on-device model (macOS 26), and you can import snippets from TextExpander, aText and Raycast.
Yes. Option-Command-N opens Markdown notes from any app, with a live preview for tasks, tables and code, plus tags, collections, daily notes, [[links]] and version history. Notes can live as .md files in a folder you choose (Pro). Free keeps up to 10 notes; Pro has no limit. Nearly 5,000 templates help you start.
Yes. Press Command-Option-Z anywhere and the previous clip is back on your clipboard. Press it again to keep stepping back: through your last 10 clips on the free plan, or 30 with Pro.
Yes. ClipBuddy ships without the outgoing network permission, so it cannot send your clipboard anywhere, and the App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected. Copies that an app marks as concealed, such as passwords from a password manager, are never saved. With Pro, the Touch ID Vault keeps cards, keys and tokens behind Touch ID.
Yes, on every plan. Turn on Hide while screen sharing in Settings, Capture & privacy and ClipBuddy stays visible to you but is left out of screen shares, recordings and screenshots.
Yes. A clip can offer one-tap actions: open a link, show a colour swatch, work out a sum, make or read a QR code, translate (macOS 14.4 or later), preview Markdown, fix spelling or copy just the email or phone number. With Pro it also reads screenshots and offers Call, Email or Map for what it finds inside them.
Yes. History, search and reading screenshot text all work offline. Translation, voice search and AI also run on your Mac when the Apple language and model resources they need are installed.
No for the basics: clipboard history works without any permission prompt. Optional features ask only when you turn them on: direct paste asks for Accessibility, keyword expansion for Input Monitoring and Accessibility, voice search for the microphone, and screenshot capture for access to your screenshot folder.
Yes, free. Press Command-Option-E for a searchable emoji picker with skin tones and flags.
No. There is no account and no sign-in. Pro is a purchase through the Mac App Store, handled by Apple.
